SummerBuild is an intensive four week programme in which participants assist the Architectural Association’s Design + Make programme in the physical production of experimental architecture in Hooke Park.

A full no-fee bursary position is available for an exceptional applicant selected on the basis of portfolio quality and clarity of motivation in their statement – apply by June 17.

Working on active projects alongside residential students of the Design + Make programme and the Hooke Park staff team, participants will be exposed to many aspects of timber building – from forestry operations, to traditional building methods, to innovative robotic fabrication. The programme is open to architecture, design and engineering students and young professionals, as well as those from other backgrounds, who seek hands-on making experience. In addition to participation in the build, a selection of informal evening lectures and software tutorials will be offered by members of our teaching staff.

For 2018, participants will be involved in the ongoing construction of Wakeford Hall – a multilayered academic building for the Hooke Park campus. First moves were made on site last year with the erection of the Library’s primary structure – a skeleton like frame made up of bespoke laminated timber components. This year, we continue work on the Library – fabricating a secondary structure and skin, while also developing its internal workings.

The fee for the four week SummerBuild programme is £495.
