VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT for a weekend in the woods.
We will be running two woodland volunteering weekends this academic year:
2-3rd December 2017
24-25th March 2018
Places limited and on a first come first served basis. To register interest please email: email@example.com
An invitation to students, staff, members of the AA and local residents near Hooke to join us in some crisp winter sun for a weekend of good company; fresh air and exercise in Hooke’s woodland and campus. Over two days we will plant some new woodland and be pruning side branches from trees of different ages and species to create a legacy of high quality, clean timber for future generations.
The woodland weekends will be led by Design & Make tutor Charley Brentnall, Hooke’s Forester Chris Sadd and Estate Manager Jez Ralph.
All weekends will run: Friday evening arrival at Hooke Park for those traveling from London. Minibus collection from Crewkerne train station Friday evening and drop off on Sunday afternoon. Accommodation (in Hooke Park’s Westminster Lodge), breakfast and lunches will be provided. For those more local to us feel free to drop in for a day or half a day but please let us know in advance so we can cater for numbers
Saturday and Sunday will start with a briefing after breakfast (for those staying) at 9.30 and onto site for 10.00. We’ll have a tea break midway through the morning, lunch from 1-2 and then an afternoon with a tea break. On Sunday we will finish after lunch. This isn’t a boot camp and if participants want to go for a walk to discover some of the deeper wilder parts of the forest we’ll happily point people in the right direction or take a short walk through the forest.
Please bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, waterproofs and stout boots. If you have pruning or pole saw bring it along but all H&S and working equipment will be provided. We have spare waterproofs and boots on site if needed. On Saturday evening we normally go out to a local pub for dinner.
